CBD oil and the effects in the spotlight

Listen to the article:

CBD oil is rightly gaining more and more popularity. What is this product, why is it getting so much attention and what is the meaning of CBD? How are CBD oils produced, what are the differences between them and how to choose the right one?

CBD oil

As CBD oil (or CBD drops or CBD hemp oil) tends to refer to a product derived from the hemp plant where the carrier of the active ingredients of the CBD extract is the plant oil. This is because CBD (like other cannabinoids) is fat-soluble, and consuming it together will maximize its effectiveness.

CBD extract is an extract from the cannabis plant containing the active ingredient CBD, and possibly other ingredients.

In our products we use one of the best and highest quality carriers, the so-called. MCT oil. MCT stands for medium chain triglycerides and is a type of fatty acid. According to Mark Hyman, author of the book “Lose Weight With Fat,” it is a super fuel that promotes fat burning and maintains mental clarity. The relationship between CBD and MCT oil is also worth noting: since MCT oil is burned relatively quickly, the effects of CBD are also quickly reaped. The combination of CBD extract and MCT oil increases the bioavailability of active substances and allows a high percentage of these substances to enter the bloodstream.

What is CBD

Let’s indulge in a fleeting memory of biology and chemistry to start with:CBD stands for cannabidiol. It belongs to the group of cannabinoids, i.e. substances that are found only in cannabis plants. There are currently several dozen cannabinoids known – the most famous of which is the controversial THC (tetrahydrocannabinol). With CBD, they have a similar structure, but their effects are quite different.

How CBD works

Simple question, somewhat more complicated answer.

The functioning of cannabinoids is based on interaction with the endocannabinoid system of our body.

If you don’t know this system, you’re in a similar position to scientists before 1992. That’s when it was discovered. And it was also discovered that balance of the endocannabinoid system has a positive effect on how our body handles diseases and adverse influences of contemporary civilization. You can learn in detail about the beauty and mechanisms of the system and CBD here.

Effects of CBD

The scientifically confirmed effects of CBD are still growing, but there is still plenty of room for research and discovery into the effects of CBD on the human body. Given unnoticed interest from scientists, there seems to be better times ahead in the field of understanding and proving the therapeutic effects of CBD.

Powerful anandamide

Before we get into the list of problems CBD can handle, let’s add another important concept: anandamide. It is a very important endocannabinoid and its concentration in the brain is increases just due to CBD. Anandamide is not for nothing called the “bliss molecule”.

This is because anandamide plays a key role in the central nervous system and, according to studies, can improve mood. One of the research has even shown that anandamide can suppress symptoms of depression and anxiety disorders.

But it’s not just mood that is associated with the effects of anandamide: the groundbreaking a 1998 study looked at breast cancer and showed that anandamide effectively slows the rapid formation of cancer cells. It also affects other elements of the human body’s functioning such as pain, memory and appetite;

Aimed at receptors

However, CBD also affects the human body in other ways, for example by triggering receptor systems;

Specifically, it can target serotonin receptors. Their function is, among other things, to control anxiety and stress;

Studies suggest that through serotonin receptors, CBD may help alleviate autonomic responses to stress and improve anxiety states;

But we don’t stop there – CBD can directly activate vanilloid receptors type 1, which are involved in pain and inflammation. It can also work with vanilloid type 2 receptors, which are associated with the elimination of malignancy.

The proven effects of CBD

Now, let’s take a look at the individual effects of CBD and the studies or research that directly address them.

CBD and pain

Much relief is provided by CBD in pain of various kinds. According to by some sources, cannabis was used for these purposes as early as around 2 900 BC. n. l.

Studies show (1, 2, 3) that CBD can help with pain relief through influencing the activity of the aforementioned endocannabinoid receptors, reducing inflammation and interacting with neurotransmitters. Participants one research who suffered rheumatoid arthritis, they reported improvements in pain during movement and at rest, as well as better sleep quality.

CBD oil and anxiety and depression

anxiety and depression are mental health disorders that can have a devastating impact on quality of life. CBD oils are showing great promise for treating these disorders, precisely because of CBD’s ability to act on serotonin receptors.

Several animal and human studies have already looked at the effect of CBD on mental disorders (1, 2, 3). Within one study conducted in 57 participants, the 300 mg CBD dose was most effective in significantly reducing anxiety, while placebo, the 150 mg CBD dose, and the 600 mg CBD dose had no or almost no effect.

CBD oil was even usedk safe treatment of insomnia and anxiety in children with posttraumatic stress disorder.

CBD and cancer

The connection between CBD and cancer is a question for more and more scientific research, but we already know that CBD can relieve from symptoms associated with cancer and from side effects associated with its treatment.

One of the studies looked at the debilitating pain associated with cancer. Patients who were given an extract containing CBD and THC experienced a significant reduction in pain (compared to those who received only the THC extract);

CBD can be a significant help (1, 2) even when addressing the state nausea and vomiting that is induced by chemotherapy.

As for anti-cancer effects of CBD, we can see some hints in the scientific sphere. Studies conducted using test tubes or animals point to CBD’s anti-cancer abilities, one of them even found cell death in human breast cancer cells due to concentrated CBD. Another study has shown that CBD inhibits the spread of aggressive breast cancer cells in mice.

CBD and epilepsy

Researchers believe that CBD’s ability to act on the endocannabinoid system and other brain signaling systems may be beneficial for patients with neurological disorders. We already have some very promising study results in relation to epilepsy.

In one study of 214 patients with severe epilepsy, a median reduction in seizures of 36.5% was found after CBD administration.

Another study found that CBD oil significantly reduced seizure activity in children with Dravet syndrome.

CBD and multiple sclerosis

Epilepsy is far from the only neurological disorder that is under the attention of scientists in relation to the effects of CBD;

One study recognizes an oral spray composed of CBD and THC as a safe and effective way to reduce muscle spasticity in people with multiple sclerosis. Remarkably, the study was conducted in 276 patients whose muscle spasticity was drug resistant. A full 75% experienced a reduction in spasm.

CBD and Parkinson’s disease

As already indicated, CBD is also being investigated in other areas of neurological disease.

For example, several studies have shown (1, 2), that CBD treatment has improved the quality of sleep and life in people suffering from Parkinson’s disease.

CBD and Alzheimer’s disease

Studies conducted using test tubes and animals have shown that CBD can reduce inflammation and help prevent neurodegeneration associated with Alzheimer’s disease.

CBD and the heart

Although this is again an area that would merit further exploration, we already know that CBD can, in various forms, benefit our heart and circulatory system.

Studies suggest that CBD is a promising tool for addressing high blood pressure. One study showed a reduction in resting blood pressure with CBD (versus placebo) in healthy subjects. Participants even responded to a stressful situation with a smaller than normal increase in blood pressure following a single dose of CBD. Researchers link the blood pressure reduction to CBD’s ability to reduce stress and anxiety.

In addition, several animal studies have shown that CBD can reduce inflammation and cell death associated with heart disease, based on its strong antioxidant and anti-stress effects. One study, for example, found that CBD treatment reduced oxidative stress and prevented heart damage in diabetic mice with heart disease.

Other effects of CBD according to the World Health Organization

In the document, the World Health Organization CANNABIDIOL: Critical Review Report lists a number of other problems and situations that CBD can help with:

  • inflammations,
  • eczema, psoriasis, acne,
  • asthma,
  • autism,
  • Crohn’s disease,
  • diabetes,
  • glaucoma (glaucoma),
  • ADHD,
  • menstrual pain,
  • migraines,
  • Tourette’s syndrome,
  • schizophrenia,
  • sclerosis,
  • stress, insomnia,
  • immunity problems,
  • inflammations,
  • the need to increase work or sports performance,
  • the need for recovery (in athletes).

Is CBD oil psychoactive?

Cannabis is mostly associated with effects on the psyche, especially in relation to THC. How is CBD? It is often stated that CBD does not have psychoactive effects, but such a claim can be misleading. The basis for answering the question is the definition. If we consider psychoactive substances to be those that have the ability to influence the mind, we can include something as common as chocolate (more specifically, the cocoa contained therein). How is this possible?

Chocolate is a delicacy that can activate the aforementioned serotonin receptors. And it is serotonin, the well-known “happiness hormone”, that is responsible for the pleasurable feeling you may get after eating chocolate. Low serotonin levels are associated with a range of unpleasant symptoms such as depression, anxiety, aggression, irritability, poor sleep quality and nausea;

One of the recent studies show that CBD may have very similar abilities and act on serotonin receptors, which are thus stimulated to work more efficiently and produce serotonin. This is then released into the body and contributes to the induction of happiness.

CBD can therefore be considered a mood-altering substance, not as intoxicating as THC, however, does not cause narcotic and psychotropic effects and its use does not affect normal activities (for example, the ability to drive a motor vehicle is preserved).

There is no CBD oil like CBD oil

The differences in the quality of CBD oils (CBD drops) are considerable, let’s take a look at what to look out for when choosing;

Hemp plant and CBD oil

Of course, the base is quality cannabis plant from which the oil is produced. It is more than advisable to choose products where we have the opportunity to know the origin of the plant;

As far as our products are concerned, thanks to the foreign farms in the family’s favor and the share in the cultivation plant in the Czech Republic, we can consistently monitor the entire process of growing and handling the plants, thus ensuring a truly premium quality of the plants from which we produce the oils.

Full spectrum a broad spectrum CBD oil

In order to better understand the issue of CBD oils, it is necessary to think about the interactions with other components of the extract in addition to the beneficial effects of CBD itself. Often the crucial difference in quality is linked to the spectrum of other substances contained, which can naturally and effectively support and amplify the positive effects of CBD.

Extracts that honor the natural strength and balance of each ingredient are referred to as full spectrum (full spectrum). The opposite are the so-called CBD-only isolates. In addition to these types of extracts, there are also so-called broad spectrum extracts. These are broad spectrum extracts, the quality of which can vary widely based on the manufacturing process. The most suitable processing method is one in which the result is close to a full spectrum extract (full spectrum of active ingredients in natural proportions with only THC separation);

In full spectrum and gentle broad spectrum extracts, the ingredients are represented by in their original proportions, making their profile completely or nearly identical to natural profile of the cannabis plant.

What are the ingredients? Mainly other cannabinoids (CBG, CBN or CBDa), terpenes, flavonoids and other phytonutrients;

It is worth finding out what profile the product has. In our range you will find full spectrum products (or slightly modified broad spectrum products) whose completely or almost natural substance profile allows effective collaboration of the different components and the use of the full range of benefits that the plant offers.

CBD oil and gentle production

A defining element of the quality of CBD oils is also technological processes used in the production.

The most gentle method is CO2 extraction.

It is a process in which dried cannabis is compressed at the optimal temperature and pressure value of CO2.

Be interested in manufacturing practices and focus on products processed using this considerate method – preserves maximum beneficial substances. If you choose CBD oil with us, you will not come across any other processing. It simply doesn’t make sense for us to use anything but the best method on our premium plants;

The right packaging for CBD oil

The ideal packaging for CBD oil is a glass container. But there are many – which glass will retain the maximum amount of beneficial substances? Dark glass is essential, due to the issue of light transmission to the contents;

However, there are some differences even between dark glasses, especially in their ability to prevent light transmission;

We package our premium oils only in high quality glass containers MIRON Violetglass. These unique biophotonic glass containers protect the contained products from the harmful effects of light, increase their shelf life and dilute their effectiveness.

CBD oil and testing

An important moment is also the testing of the final products, during which content of cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids, pesticide residues and other ingredients. Nutritional values, microbiological indicators and other important elements are determined.

All of our products are thoroughly tested by the renowned Aquatest a.s. laboratory based in Prague. The results are carefully scrutinized to ensure that we offer only the best products to our clients.

CBD oil and form

There are a number of different forms on the market through which the oil can be used. The most common is pure oil in a dropper jar – the oil is usually dripped under the tongue, allowed to work with the saliva and then swallowed.

For the case of travel, but also due to easier and more accurate dispensing and use, the popularity of capsules that contain CBD oil.

CBD oil and concentration

CBD drops or capsules also differ in CBD concentration. The difference in this case lies only in the amount of active CBD contained. The least concentrated CBD oil in our range is CBD oil 5%, the next level is then CBD oil 10% and the strongest then CBD oil 20%. Since a 10 ml pack contains about 200-250 drops, the CBD content of each drop is approximately as follows:

  • 5% oil: one drop contains 2-2.5 mg of CBD;
  • 10% oil: one drop contains 4-5 mg of CBD;
  • 20% oil: one drop contains 8-10 mg of CBD;

Among our products you will find the mentioned CBD capsules, where the dosage is quite precise – one capsule contains 25 mg of CBD.

CBD oil and animals

Pet owners and breeders often ask us if CBD oils are suitable for animals. Since the endocannabinoid system described above is also found in the bodies of dogs, cats and other mammals, we can assume that these creatures are also susceptible to the active ingredients in CBD oils. The most common use of CBD oils in animals is for conditions of fear, anxiety or irritability, but it is also used to combat cancer, lack of appetite or pain. For more information and context, see this article.

The current findings have led us to expand our range to include a range designed specifically for animals. A carefully crafted CBD pet oil 5% or CBD oil for animals 10%.

What to take away from all this

Obviously, CBD oils are not just different in label. The content is crucial, but so is the packaging. If you focus on full spectrum (or considerate broad spectrum) products derived from CO2 by extracting from quality cannabis plants that are properly tested and protected by premium glass containers, you won’t go wrong. Then all you have to do is choose the appropriate concentration and experience the beneficial effects of the ingredients as soon as possible.
