General about HHC and the medical environment
Hexahydrocannabinol, or “HHC,” is a cannabinoid, which are naturally occurring compounds found in hemp plants. Scientists have identified over 100 cannabinoids. The most well-known cannabinoids are Delta-9 THC and cannabidiol (CBD). THC is the component of marijuana that produces a feeling of being high. Cannabidiol is a component of many CBD products that claim to help with everything from pain and inflammation to anxiety, depression, and sleep issues. The FDA has not approved any THC medication for use in medical settings.
There is one CBD product, Epidiolex, which the FDA has approved for use under medical supervision to treat seizures in specific cases. There are also three synthetic cannabis-related products approved by the FDA for treating nausea, vomiting, and appetite loss. Other than that, there is not enough evidence to know if using these products is safe in the long term or if they do what they claim to do. Cannabinoids like Delta-8 THC and HHC have recently emerged in the market. They are produced by starting with THC or another cannabinoid and slightly altering it in a chemical laboratory. They do not have any FDA-approved uses. There is very limited information about their safety and efficacy, but there have been reports of adverse side effects.
Will you feel “HIGH” after HHC?
Like THC, HHC provides a pleasant feeling to many people who take it. However, exactly what that feeling is can be harder to determine. For now, some people report similar effects to conventional THC products, but there is not enough data to be sure if that is true. There is also not enough data to know if using HHC can have negative side effects or even long-term negative effects.

Research is still emerging on the potential dangers of HHC. But scientists are already aware of the potential problems that could arise when using cannabinoid substances in a non-medically supervised environment. Intoxicating cannabinoids like cannabis can lead to problems such as:
- Reduction in your baby’s birth weight if you use them during pregnancy
- Increasing the risk of a traffic accident
- Habitual use may make growth difficult , especially in adolescents
- Negative impacts on relationships and productivity at home, work or school
- Higher risk of injury in older adults
- Dizziness on getting up increasing the risk of fainting and falling
- Increasing the risk of mental illness in some people
Experts have taken pains to warn against using vapour to inhale cannabis and cannabis-related substances. This is partly due to evidence of lung damage in people who use these substances with vape technology, but also because scientists are in the process of doing in-depth research. Even in the FDA-approved drug Epidiolex, some people have side effects such as: diarrhea, drowsiness, signs of abnormal liver function, problematic drug interactions. But of course, these problems can be more easily managed with a medically prescribed and carefully regulated drug like Epidiolex.
This is not the case for most cannabis and cannabinoid products, the vast majority of which are not regulated by the FDA. This gives manufacturers wide latitude in what they can claim about their products. You may not even know exactly what the product contains. For example, in 2017, researchers conducted a detailed study of more than 80 CBD products sold online. They found that more than 40% contained more of the active ingredient than claimed, and about a quarter of the products contained less than claimed. Why do people take HHC?
Although some use it for various medical purposes, there is no research to date to support these uses. Additionally, many people simply use HHC products for their natural effects.
